Most people know to research the companies and products they are considering. They also know to get multiple quotes on comparable products. But, not all contractors are the same so you want to make sure you’re hiring the right one for your new siding installation. Not hiring the right siding contractor can lead to problems for years to come. Here are three questions you should ask before you sign your contract.
1. What Brands of Siding do You Install?
Knowing the brands the siding contractor offers will tell you a few things. First, if they offer “any brand you want” that shows they don’t sell much siding because they haven’t found a brand they trust. It also may indicate they’re not well trained on any manufacturer’s specific installation techniques which could lead to installation issues. If they offer one or two brands that have significantly different options (like James Hardie® fiber cement siding and another brand of vinyl siding) you can be relatively confident they know what they’re doing with each brand’s installation.
2. What is Your Siding Experience?
You want a siding contractor who installs the siding rather than outsourcing it to another business. That will help you in the future, should there be a warranty issue. You may find that giving the manufacturer the name of the company who sold it rather than installed it may cause issues. In fact, they may tell you that you don’t have warranty coverage at all because they don’t recognize the installer.
Ideally you want a company with experience installing siding as a primary business focus. When they share their experience with you, also ask about their workmanship warranty. A good siding contractor will offer an installation and workmanship warranty.
3. Are You Insured?
We can’t emphasize this enough. Anytime you hire a contractor, handyman, or someone else to work on your home, make sure they are insured. Ask if they have both liability and workman’s compensation insurance. Their insurance is in place to protect you. Without it, you may be liable for damages or injury that occur on your property or to your neighbor’s property during the installation process.
When you hire Affordable Replacement Window Systems as your siding contractor, you can take comfort in the fact we are insured. We also offer quality James Hardie fiber cement siding and are factory trained on proper installation methods. Our experience in siding installation goes back to when we were a full-service contractor building additions and offering complete exterior remodeling. We pared down our offerings because we wanted to be window and siding experts. If you’re looking for new siding for your home, call (817) 264-6509 for your free estimate or fill out our contact form.
