Whether you’re here in the greater Arlington, TX area or somewhere else in the country, window styles change very little. What most influences the window style you may want is the style of your home and your budget. Here are some things you should know about the most common window styles.
Single- Versus Double-Hung Windows
Most homes, when built, have single hung windows. That means they only open from the bottom up. Many homeowners with single-hung windows opt for double-hung windows when they get replacement windows because of their many benefits. Double-hung windows open both from the bottom up and the top down.
Casement Windows
Perhaps the fast growing in popularity of all window styles. Casement windows open by using a hand crank from one side or the other. They allow for a great view, more air flow and both sides can easily be cleaned from inside the home. They’re also extremely energy efficient. However, they are fairly expensive.
Sliding Windows
Sliding windows are a great option for a wall of windows that is wider than tall. There are brands that allow the window panes to slide in both directions and others where only one pane slides. Like casement windows, sliding windows offer a great view.
Picture Windows
Picture windows don’t open. However, they offer an unobstructed view and because they don’t open, are very energy efficient. One of the reasons we say you’ll need to choose your window styles is because many homes have both picture windows and at least one other style.
Awning Windows
Think of an awning window as a casement window on its side. It opens at a hinge at the top to create an awning when open. Some people mistake transom windows for awning windows, and although they appear the same from the outside, transom windows do not open and are always above another window.
