Although there are many options for replacement windows, vinyl replacement windows continue to be the most popular option. There are many reasons why. However, they’re not perfect and there are some reasons why you may want to consider another window material.
Why Not
We love vinyl replacement windows. They account for about 80% of the replacement windows we sell and install. However, they do have their flaws, even quality ones. Homeowners in historic homes should not consider vinyl replacement windows. They can’t match the style or look of a wood window. Instead, we recommend clad or wood replacement windows.
Some homeowners think of vinyl as cheap, and they are less expensive than some materials. And, you can find very cheap vinyl windows. Like just about anything else, a very cheap vinyl window won’t last as long as you may want it to. It likely won’t be very energy efficient either.
Why Consider Vinyl Replacement Windows
Most homes throughout are area will look great with vinyl replacement windows. Here are a few reasons we think they’re a great option for most homes:
- Most affordable replacement window
- Wide variety of colors and style windows
- Nearly maintenance free
- Lower cost than wood and clad windows
- Most are ENERGY STAR® rated
- Provide a good return on investment
Keep in mind that different brand windows have additional features which may add to their appeal for you. For example, different manufacturers offer different frame and sash colors. Black replacement windows continue to be popular and not all manufacturers offer black windows. Additionally, if you have energy efficiency goals in mind, you’ll need to find a manufacturer who can meet those goals.
